As we return for the new year, Wheeling University is celebrating a new food services partner.
Aladdin, An Elior Company, a member of the Elior North America family of culinary management companies, was recently awarded the food and beverage contract at Wheeling University. Aladdin will begin services” January 6th, where the culinary team will offer contemporary brands that students love, enhance the culinary experience with freshly prepared food, and create a campus dining destination where students can eat, socialize and study!
I am very excited to begin our dinning partnership with Aladdin. They are a well-known commodity in the student dining world and experience and quality are elements they strive for. It is their first priority to ensure our students have a wonderful and enriching experience in every way on our beautiful campus and believe that Aladdin will position us to do so when it comes to nutrition, wellness, and quality.
With a proven record of success in increasing board plan participation, Aladdin will feature its fresh and healthier prepared signature branded concepts including a wide selection of nutritious menu items at each meal, homestyle entrees, made-to-order deli sandwiches, hot grill items offering gourmet burgers, and oven-baked pizza.
Concepts will also offer gluten-free and allergen-friendly culinary options and freshly baked treats. Aladdin’s Season Harvest, a plant-based program, will feature menu options using fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains to accommodate vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. According to Joe DeSalvo, Aladdin district manager, “We use menu engineering software to specify the nutritional value of ingredients and recipes suitable for people with specific dietary requirements. This information is linked to our digital signage which posts information “real time” to our digital signage so that students, faculty and guests are best informed.”
Aladdin will combine its culinary expertise with favorite quick service brands in its retail venue. “To accommodate both the commuter and residential student populations, we will offer We Proudly Serve Starbucks, grab-n-go freshly prepared foods and other convenience items,” says DeSalvo.
Aladdin’s professional catering –everything from campus celebrations to small faculty meetings and student gatherings – will provide an exciting addition to campus dining! And, athletes will also benefit from Aladdin’s well-focused selections such as smoothies made from fresh fruits and rich in antioxidants, perfect for recovery after physical activity!
Aladdin’s future renovation plans include a chef-attended action station where chefs will entertain students with their culinary skills, while preparing a variety of foods that are fresh and customized to the students’ tastes! Another welcoming addition will be Greens, an expansive new salad bar with fresh ingredients and homemade soups!
For all university employees, Aladdin will offer a $5 fee for lunch when a Cardinal Card is presented!
Aladdin has committed to improving and upgrading our dining hall and serving area over the next few years to turn the Benedum Room into a place where our students can go and study, hangout and relax. For now, you’ll find a freshly painted dining room and serving area. The work is certainly not done but we are well on our way!
Although many of the new dining additions are food based, I do hope the new changes will improve our overall student experience and an improved workplace for our staff and faculty as well.
Here’s to a happy, healthy and prosperous 2020!
